Studies on High Blood Pressure and EMFs

Although EMFs from all sources can affect blood pressure and heart rate readings, the correlation has been made the most clear in studies linking EMFs to cell phones and DECT phones. 

In June 1998, the medical journal The Lancet reported on a double-blind study that showed that radiation from cell phones causes an increase of blood pressure. Dr Braune and colleagues in Freiburg, Germany, attached cell phones to the right side of the heads of subjects, switching the phones on and off by remote control.

The blood pressure of the subjects significantly rose each time, due to constrictive effect on blood vessels. The researchers determined that this level of increase would be more than enough to trigger heart attack or stroke in someone already at severe risk.

Dr. Thomas M. Rau, Medical Director of the Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland, found that people living near radio towers or cell towers appear to have increased cardiac symptoms. 

In 2010, Dr. Magda Havas conducted a peer-reviewed, double-blind study showing evidence that microwave radiation from a cordless DECT phone affects the heart and causes arrhythmia and tachycardia. Tachycardia has been shown to be associated with a higher risk of developing high blood pressure. She concluded that EMF exposure from a DECT phone could be life threatening to those with heart disease.
